The Energy Cost Audit: A Free Review of Your Alberta Business Energy Bills

The Energy Cost Audit is a free, no-obligation review of an Alberta business’s
electricity and natural gas costs. Send us one recent bill of each and we review both halves —
the rate you pay for energy and the distribution and transmission charges you pay to receive it
— then report back in writing on what we found and what is worth changing. There is no fee and
no requirement to switch anything.

What we review

Part of your bill What we check
Energy rate What you pay per kWh and per GJ, how it compares to the market today,
whether your plan type suits how your business actually uses energy, and what your term costs you in
flexibility.
Contract terms End date, renewal mechanism, exit provisions and whether your
agreement rolls onto a higher rate automatically. Most of the expensive surprises live here.
Distribution & transmission Your rate classification, billing demand, riders and
metering set-up — regulated charges that are not always optimised for how your site is used
today.
Demand and power factor Whether demand charges or a low power factor are adding cost
that equipment on your side of the meter could remove.
Usage Your load profile across the day and the year, which tells us whether a rate
change, an equipment change or nothing at all is the right answer.
What happens next A renewal calendar, so the next decision happens on your schedule
rather than your supplier’s.

How it works

  1. Send us your bills. One recent electricity bill and one natural gas bill, per
site. A photo or a PDF is fine. For multi-site businesses, send a representative sample and we will
tell you what else we need.
  2. We review them. Both halves of the bill, against current market pricing and the
tariff that applies to your wires company and rate class.
  3. You get a written summary. What you are paying, what is available, what is
worth changing and what is not. In plain language, with the numbers shown.
  4. You decide. If something is worth acting on, we handle it — whether that
means supplying you ourselves, placing you with another retailer, or working with your wires company
on a delivery charge correction. If nothing is worth changing, you have that in writing too.
You do not have to switch anything to do this. Roughly the
most useful outcome for a business already under contract is finding a delivery charge issue, which
has nothing to do with who supplies your energy.

What we can do about what we find

1. The energy you buy

We shop the market on your behalf as a broker,
and we can also supply you directly as a retailer. Whichever gives you the better number is the one
we recommend.

2. The delivery charges

Distribution and transmission are regulated,
but that does not mean they are optimised for your site. Rate classification, demand levels and
riders are all worth checking — and we can check them while you are still under contract with
someone else.

3. How you use it

Power factor correction, combined heat and power,
solar, lighting and controls, load-profile analysis. Included in the review where they apply, not
sold as a separate project.

4. What happens next

Market monitoring and a renewal calendar, so
your next contract decision is made on a date you chose rather than the one your current supplier
chose for you.

Power factor correction, combined heat and power, solar and efficiency work are all part of the
package when the review points at them — they are not separate engagements you have to go
shopping for.

What it costs

The audit is free. There is no fee, no retainer and no obligation to buy anything. If we end up
supplying your energy, we make our money the way any retailer does, on the supply. If we place you
with another retailer as your broker, we are paid by that retailer. Either way, the review itself
costs you nothing and you keep the findings.

Book a free Energy Cost Audit

Send us one recent electricity bill and one natural gas bill. We review both halves — the
energy you buy and the delivery charges you are billed to receive it — and come back with a
written summary of what we found and what, if anything, is worth changing. No cost, no obligation,
and no requirement to switch anything.

Common questions

How long does the review take?

Usually a few business days for a single site once we have your bills. Multi-site and complex
industrial reviews take longer, and we will tell you up front.

Do I have to switch retailers?

No. Plenty of reviews end with a delivery charge recommendation and no supply change at all.

What if we are in the middle of a term?

That is a good time to do it. The delivery review runs regardless, and knowing your options
before your renewal notice arrives is worth more than finding out after.

Is my bill information kept private?

Yes. Your bills and usage data are used for your review only.

What businesses is this for?

Any Alberta business, farm or commercial property. Small business is up to 250,000 kWh and
2,500 GJ a year; larger sites are handled as commercial.
