Questions

Am I locked into a contract?

You can cancel anytime with 10 days’ notice; we have no exit penalties or cancellation fees.

What's the process of switching?

Simply complete the online signup form. Our team takes care of the rest! There is no interruption of service and no requirement to call your current retailer.

What is a prudential?

Energy retailers in Alberta are required to pay a prudential charge to guarantee payment to the generators (electricity only) for the cost of energy a consumer consumes and to the distribution utilities (both electricity and natural gas) for delivery charges. Your investment in our prudential account allows us to keep our rates lower and continue to save you money on your energy bill.

The prudential payment (one time charge) for electricity accounts is based on the historical usage for the location, typically $100.00 to $200.00 for residential properties. The prudential payment for natural gas accounts is set at $100.00. Business and Farm accounts are assessed on an individual basis. Get Energy will credit your account monthly with interest on the amount at 5% (calculated per annum) and the prudential payment is fully refundable should you choose to leave Get Energy.

Do I have to cancel my energy from my existing supplier?

Get Energy will report the switch on your behalf and let your current retailer know the
switch date, however, consumers should always check the Terms and Conditions of
their existing agreements to determine the cancellation policy with their current retailer.

Should I choose a fixed or variable rate?

Price security is the primary goal behind fixed electricity rates. Fixed energy plans allow you to lock in rates for longer periods and protect your bills from market volatility. Some consumers prefer variable rates to make sure they pay as little as possible when rates are low. Not sure which rate you should choose? Ask! Our team would be happy to help.

Are there hidden fees?

There are no hidden fees.

How does the billing work?

Everything is automated to save you time and hassle – invoices are emailed to you advising the amount and date of payment – seven days later the payment is automatically withdrawn via pre-authorized debit.
