What Is the Solar Club?

The Solar Club is Get Energy’s electricity plan designed specifically for Alberta homeowners with solar panels. Unlike standard electricity plans that treat all customers the same, the Solar Club recognizes that solar homes have unique needs — you generate power, you export power, and you need flexibility to maximize your investment.

How It Works

The Solar Club gives you two rate options, and you can switch between them anytime with just 10 days’ notice:

LO Rate — Low Import (4.04¢/kWh)

Best for months when you’re importing more than you’re exporting — typically November through February when solar production is low and household usage is high. The variable rate is also a viable option for solar customers, as it can save you even more money — variable rates are typically lower than fixed rates.

  • You pay 4.04¢/kWh for power you import from the grid
  • A competitive rate that’s lower than most fixed plans
  • Ideal for winter months

HI Rate — High Export (35.00¢/kWh)

Best for months when you’re exporting heavily — typically April through September when your panels are producing more than your home can use.

  • You earn 35.00¢/kWh for power you export to the grid
  • One of the highest export rates available from any Alberta retailer
  • Ideal for summer months

3% Annual Cashback

On top of the competitive rates, you earn 3% cashback on all energy you import from the grid, paid out annually. It’s a bonus that rewards you even during the months you’re drawing grid power.

Why Seasonal Switching Matters

Most electricity plans force you into one rate year-round. But solar production is highly seasonal in Alberta:

Who Is the Solar Club For?

The Solar Club is for any Alberta homeowner who:

What You Need to Join

  • Solar panels (or other micro-generation) installed on your property
  • An approved micro-generation interconnection with your wire service provider
  • A bi-directional meter (your utility installs this)

How to Switch to the Solar Club

  1. Visit the Solar Club sign-up page
  2. Provide your basic info and site ID (from your electricity bill)
  3. Choose your starting rate (LO or HI)
