Why a Prudential
Electricity and Natural Gas retailers in Alberta are required to pay a Prudential charge to guarantee payment to the generators for the cost of energy a customer consumes and to the distribution utilities for delivery charges. In Alberta’s deregulated market, this is a typical cost of doing business. The cost is rolled into the retailer’s basic energy rate, which in turn artificially inflates the electricity and natural gas rates charged to consumers.
Customers paying a Prudential will gain access to our discounted rate(s). In addition, we are paying our customers an attractive interest rate of 5% per annum on the money paid into your Prudential Account. Interest payments are made monthly and will appear as a credit on your monthly utility bill.
Getting Your Prudential Back
You will continue to earn 5% interest on your Prudential up until you are no longer a customer of Get Energy. The Prudential amount is 100% refundable at the end of the term of the discounted energy rate being offered or at anytime if you opt to cancel the energy supply agreement. At this time your final bill will be calculated, collected and your Prudential contribution will be returned!
